The Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok, concurrently accredited to the Kingdom of Cambodia, successfully concluded the two-day Free Eye Treatment Camp held on 4–5 July 2026 at the Provincial Hospital in Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia. The camp was organized in collaboration with the Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Center (Rana-Ambika Eye Hospital, Lumbini) and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangha, with the generous support of the Provincial Administration and Provincial Hospital of Kampong Cham.

The Eye Treatment Camp was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Un Chanda, Governor of Kampong Cham Province. The initiative reflected the strong friendship between Nepal and Cambodia and their shared commitment to promoting accessible and quality healthcare services for the people.

During the two-day camp, a total of approximately 1,500 Cambodian nationals received free eye screening, consultation, diagnosis, medicines, and treatment from a team of experienced ophthalmologists and medical professionals from Nepal and Cambodia. Hundreds of patients suffering from various eye diseases benefited from the services, while those requiring further specialized care were provided with appropriate medical advice and referrals. The overwhelming participation of local residents demonstrated the significant need for quality eye care services and the positive impact of the humanitarian initiative.

Prior to the inauguration, Ambassador Oli paid a courtesy call on Governor Un Chanda at the Governor’s Office, where both sides held productive discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in public health, medical education, healthcare services, capacity building, and professional exchanges. They emphasized the importance of enhancing institutional collaboration and sharing expertise to improve healthcare systems and promote the well-being of the people of both countries.

Governor Un Chanda reaffirmed Kampong Cham Province’s commitment to expanding international cooperation in the healthcare sector and welcomed stronger partnerships with Nepal. He expressed confidence that closer collaboration between provincial institutions and Nepali healthcare organizations would create valuable opportunities for professional exchanges, knowledge sharing, and community-based health initiatives.

Ambassador Oli expressed his sincere appreciation to Governor Un Chanda for his invaluable support and leadership in facilitating the successful organization of the Eye Treatment Camp. He also commended the Provincial Hospital, Kampong Cham, for its outstanding cooperation and hospitality in hosting and implementing the program.

As part of the continued partnership, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation through capacity-building initiatives, including professional training and exposure opportunities for Cambodian doctors, ophthalmologists, nurses, and other medical personnel at the Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Center in Nepal.

Following the successful completion of the Eye Treatment Camp, a special closing ceremony was organized to celebrate the success of the humanitarian initiative. During the ceremony, tokens of love and appreciation were exchanged between the Embassy of Nepal, the Provincial Administration of Kampong Cham, the Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Center, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangha, and partner organizations in recognition of their outstanding cooperation, dedication, and valuable contributions. Certificates and mementos were also presented to the doctors, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and supporting staff whose tireless efforts ensured the smooth and successful implementation of the camp.

It reflects the shared humanitarian values of both countries and their commitment to expanding cooperation in healthcare, medical education, and people-to-people relations.
